The New Year always brings out the industriousness in me. I’m one of this chronic resolution makers and goal setters, so flipping the calendar is like wiping a chalkboard clean.
My goal last weekend was to do nothing but sew, but instead the “clean and tidy” bug bit me, and since that bug RARELY bites, I took full advantage of it and decided to freshen my crafting space.
I needed it after a December of crafting gnomes and finishing some quilting projects!
Marie Kondo always says, “It’ll look worse before it looks better”….and she’s right!
I took down my craft room Christmas decor, which led to re-organizing a very overflowing fabric stash, which led to deep cleaning baseboards (WHO AM I – AND WHAT DID 2020 DO TO ME?!), which led to getting a bucket of soapy water and wiping down my table, which led me to decide that for the first time ever I should decorate for Valentine’s Day, which led to me watching re-runs of Friends.
PS: Everything leads to re-runs of Friends.
At one point things got so messy I almost lost a dog! She popped up from this pile when I crinkled a crackers wrapper.
Now that my space is neat and tidy and organized (translation: I won’t be able to find anything back), I’m ready to tackle my 2021 quilting goals!
Do you set quilting goals?
Last year was the first year ever that I did and boy oh boy did it really help me stay focused and on track! I was able to finish up several UFOs (that’s quilt lingo for “Unfinished Objects”) and due to the pandemic I had more time down in my sewing room than ever before!
This was my list of quilting UFOs at the beginning of last year. I kept it pinned on my lockers and referred to it often.
This simple list kept me soooo focused! Whenever I came down to my space and wasn’t sure what to do, I would pull out this list and work on something from it.
Here are just a few projects I finished up!
Not everything got down, but a lot (A LOT!) did get finished or is close to being finished and just needs to go to the quilter! I think my favorite projects were this Laura Heine collage quilt, my first Farm Girl Vintage Quilt, and then this sampler quilt, which was made from leftover fabric from some quilted bags I made for friends.
Drop me a comment below if you think a quilting goal planner / tracker would be helpful to you! I’m making my own this year and will plan to share it!
