The assignment for week #4 of the Farm Girl Vintage 2 Sew Along included 2 blocks: Cold Watermelon and Corn & Tomatoes.

Admittedly, the Cold Watermelon was easy to tackle, but the Corn & Tomatoes blocks? Well, let’s just say the little leaves on the tomatoes almost got the best of me.

Quite honestly, I was ready to throw in the towel and keep the imperfections, but I was at a sewing retreat and my very kind Auntie offered to pick them apart and put them back together correctly.
You can see the tiny little pucker in the top where she did her best to fix it up. LOVE YOU AUNTIE!

Cold Watermelon Block
I chose to sew the Cold Watermelon block in the 12-inch size.

For some reason, I naturally gravitate toward the tinier 6-inch quilt blocks. I’m not sure why.
When I was done with the Cold Watermelon block, I wasn’t totally thrilled.
It just looked a little plain jane.
I decided it was missing the black watermelon seeds, so I pulled out some buttons to see if they helped me fall in love a bit more.

They did the trick! I won’t add these permanently until after everything is quilted, but the three black buttons are the perfect addition!
Corn & Tomatoes
Admittedly I put off doing this block for quite some time because of the long list of pieces needed!

If you’ve done any Bee Lori Holt Quilt, you know that sometimes you are pleasantly surprised when you only need pieces “A through G”, but then you turn the page and the next block requires about 40 different pieces!

I’m happy to have both done now!
Past Week’s Sew Alongs
If you’re new here, I’ve been hosting a free sew along for the blocks in Bee Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage 2 book.
Each week I email out an assignment and everyone is encouraged to finish 2 blocks per week.
If you want to catch up on past week’s assignments, you will find them here:
